Seton provides two unique services to
students in New Orleans –
Filial
Therapy
and
Primary Project.
Filial Therapy
is a method of family therapy that involves parents
as the primary change agents for their own children. Filial Therapy
can impact positive changes in children’s behaviors. Filial Therapy
strengthens the parent-child relationship in families. Over forty
years of research and clinical experience have shown this to be a
most powerful intervention for family problems and for enhancing
family development and health. This program is supported by Rise Van
Fleet, Ph.D., at the Family Enhancement and Play Therapy Center in
Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania.
Primary Project
is an evidenced-based program that provides
child-centered play therapy sessions for children pre-K through 3 who
are identified as needing extra support to facilitate adjustment to
the school environment. This program is currently mandated in public
schools in five states. This program is supported by the Children’s
Institute in Rochester, New York.
